type "o" c-clip

I just fabricated and installed C5/C6 brakes on my type "o" axle my question do I still need the thickness of the drum backing plate in between my axle and the c-clip eleminator bracket. I think if removed when bolting the axle in it would be to tight against the bearings. thanks for any input.

Type O axles did not use C clip axle retention. If you are referring to an axle bearing retention plate, yes you should make a shim--backing plates for drum brakes are about .1" thick.

Well the axle dont have c-clips on the inside so I just assumed the bearing retention plates were doing the same job as c-clip eleminators
