Swapping rear end assemblies?

what all will bolt up under a 71 cutlass! Found an assembly posi from an early 70's Impala and wanting to know if it would be a direct bolt in. Thanks.

Impala rearend won't fit.

A rear from any of these '68-'72 vehicles will fit:

Oldsmobile Cutlass / 442
Chevrolet Chevelle, Malibu, El Camino, Monte Carlo
Buick Skylark, GS
Pontiac LeMans, Tempest, GTO, Gran Prix

With the caveat that you MIGHT need a different length driveshaft.

The 71-76 Impala is only about 6" wider than the 71 Cutlass.

Aren't the shock mounts in a different location as well?

I would have thought it would fit just off of eyeing it but if it won't it won't. Should have known I won't stumble in many cheap deals with my luck lol!

EVERYTHING is in a different location - shock mounts, spring perches, control arm mounting points. Of course, the wheel bolt pattern is different also, as are the brakes.

Well I knew the perches would be because they are farther apart. I was thinking that I read that the shock mounts were on the opposite side of the axle from the A body mounts (front to back).
