Smile Rearend for a 57

I have all of the parts to build my 455 to install in my 57 olds 88. The block is going to the machine shop for boring. 40 over with keith black pistons, CAT rods, Nodular crank. E big valve heads. I will use a B & M turbo 400. Now I need to beef up the rear end and add posi to handle the new engine. Any ideas on what will fit? This site has the best info

Thanks

rearend

Well the 9.3 rear that is original to your car is great....But the posi for it will be tough to find and then just as expensive. The sell spools for the rear but they are like 300.00 dollars too. Gears are way out there also. 300.00 a set at the very least. SO...depends on how original you want to keep the car as to what you should do.

I have see Ford 9" work or just plain leave the rear alone till you come across a deal when you find one. They do come up from time to time. I had one a few months back 3.23 posi .

All I can say is good luck on the hunt. I heard alot of PA cars came with better gearing and posi because of the hilly terrain and mountians. Questionable though. Jim

Thanks for the info. At this point I think I will stick with the stock rearend and just keep my eyes open for a replacement with the same dimensions

A different rear???????? The '57 thru '64 rears have got to be one of the STRONGEST, INDESTRUCTABLE rears on planet Earth. Have you ever taken out the pumpkin out? This thing has got to weigh 200 pounds alone and look how thick the gears are. Dont waste your time with another rear...Rebuild or get a '57 thru '64 posi unit..Prices are getting a little crazy for posi units, though
