Rear ID

I picked up a rearend from a guy and I'm trying to figure out what it is. What I was told was it came out of a 71-72 Oldsmobile 442. What I know is that it is a posi. Pretty sure the grear ratio is 3.91+/-. It has bolt in axles. Front of passenger side tube has T0 0081 stamped in it. The front of the carrier housing has the following info cast into it 407286 in one area and the letters CFD in another. I picked up the rearend to put in my 1966 Buick Skylark but wanted to learn more about it and also see if any Olds guys needed it for a resto before I did something with it.

Thanks, Alan

CF would be an axle code from 73-74-75 A and G body.
CFD= 2.93 Posi Dana Corporation built axle.

How many bolts are on the cover of the diff? 10 bolts for 72. The code TO should be stamped along the tube somewhere which would indicate a 3.73 gear ratio if its an Olds rear. Where are you located? pictures could help too

The TO code would be 3:73 posi, which is correct for 71-72 Cutlass/442. The 0081 is actually the letter "O" for Oldsmobile, then 081,for the 81st day of the year.

I actually need THAT rear,or one like it,for my 71 W30.It came equipped with the 3:73 rear originally but was swapped-out years ago when the car was raced. The finish date is about a month later than my car,but if I can't find another one, then beggers can't be choosers.I did have one other person contact me last week, and might have a line on one,but he does not have it in his hands yet,so i don't know if that deal will materialize or not.

Brian, What rear do you have under your car right now. Maybe we can do a swap.
