Ordered some new parts

I just ordered a 3:90 gear, posi unit, all the bearings, all the rear bushings, sway bar and boxing kit for my 65 today. That should put a little spring in it's step.

Got started on the rear end today. Got it pulled in about an hour (I love cars from ID they come apart like they where put together yesterday) then spent 2 hrs cleaning up the control arms before taking them to work to install the new bushings and weld in the boxing kit.

Let me know how you make out with boxing kit on the rear control arms. Mine are not boxed in, and it looks like those may be a good option.

I took the ones out of there rear housing itself with a drill to get rid of the rubber and a 4 lbs hammer and a chisel to smash the carcass down and then pound it out, it took about 15 minutes, I used a 4x4 and the same 4 lbs hammer to put the news ones in, it took about 5 minutes to install. The rest of the bushings I took into my local tire shop and had them do them. 1hr labor, I think that's cheap and I don't have to smash my own fingers.

Well I got the rear end back in yesterday, new bushings, boxed arms and the sway bar, I painted it cast iron. It's not fancy but it's a good as new. Now it's off to the rear end shop for the 3:90 posi and new bearings.

The car has been at the rear end shop for 3 days having the gear and posi put it. No one in Boise had the correct axle bearings for this car, the shop had to order them from out of state. Can't wait to see what difference the 3:90 gear has on the car.

I used the same boxing kit for my lowers. Fit was good and just some welding. Worked out great!
I also removed the bushings the same way. I used a 1/4" drill bit and it spun around the bushing removing the rubber. Then of course, the BFH

Got the car back last night, it does have more get up and go, the rear end is just a quiet now as it was, it does rev out considerable quicker. The speedo is off quite a bit.
The shop told me not to be hard on it for the first 500 miles so that's what I will do. Can't wait to get the 200R4 in, that will complete the package.

Any time you change the rear gear to something numerically higher, your speedo will read faster than what you are going,so you will put more miles on it than you actually are. If you are doing the 2004R swap,I'd just wait, and have the correct speedo gear put in that.
I've done three 3:90 rears lately, for guys running the same 2004R. It seems that is a sweet spot for some. Two small blocks, and one big block.

I got to drive the car out on the hi way today, it definitely does need the overdrive transmission, it's turning close to 3000 RPM's at 55. I've talked to the people that are going to do the transmission and they tell me that with the tires I have the engine should be turning about 1800 RPM's at 65 after the trans swap and that should be perfect for hi way use. At least that's what I think.

If you go on Randy's Ring & Pinion website, they have a gear calculator. You can type in your gear ratio, transmission, tire size, and mph,to get your rpm.
