Nothing interchanges between the two if that was your question.

Just curious if one is stronger or better than the other. Rebuild parts availability? Their both 3:08 gears. I have a type 0 open rear with 3:23 gears. Would those gears work in the 0 axle posi I have?

The P type is a 8.2 ring gear and the O type is 8.5 ring gear.. As Joe said nothing interchanges EXCEPT the 28 spline axles with 70 axles being the exception. The 3.23 will go on the 3.08 carrier but will not work with a 3.42 carrier. The P type is a cone type posi and the O type is a clutch type posi.

So to ad.... The cone type in GMs eyes is NOT a -unit... The clutch type O type 12 bolt cover 10 bolt ring is a re-buildable unit. The square tab clutches are a custom item these days I have a few sets on the shelf.
The cone type unit will require...USUALLY after 50+ year cones to be cut and a cleaning out of all the parts and re-shim and assemble the unit. USUALLY I tell people this can only be done once per unit.

Hope this added info help on your info also.
