Large A stamped into rear end?

Can anyone shed some light on the meaning of a large A stamped into my rearend?

It’s near the center and on the front side (facing engine/trans).

Other stampings are SAB 0851. Which I have gathered is a 2.73 open diff.

A in the casting

Other rears like the 7.5 had the same cast into its center too. I have parted out over the years.
Guess maybe the Plants code??/
The 1971 1972 10 bolt 8.5 had 'O' cast into the housing between the ribs at the collar area where the tubes are pressed in...Thinking that would stand for Oldsmobile...BUT that again is unknown to me also.

So I am waiting for better answer too.
