Can someone please help me to sort this out?
I have an Oldsmobile Omega 1973 with a 10 bolt cover rear end - code is JBG 249 1
From the build sheet G90 3.08 RATIO AXL and according to the 1973 Oldsmobile Service Manual I would have expected the code JIC or JWC
Hi, I think this is a Chevy (Nova) rear. It may or may not be original to the vehicle.
"JB" is the code in 1973 for a 3.08 open ratio
"G" is the assembly plant which is: "Chevrolet Gear & Axle"
"249" is the Julian date - Sept 6
"1" - First shift.
Need to check the casting date on the axle to determine the casting year.
In any case this is a GM corporate 8.5 inch rear axle. It's a good axle assembly with lots of aftermarket support/parts.
