Help with differential code

I have what I believe to be an unaltered 1970 Cutlass S with a code P2 stamped into the rear differential...

I cant seem to locate a sheet that explains what this means?

Any help would be great

Hi Scott
My reference doesn't show a P2 but does have an R2. If that's what you've got then its a 2.56 open rear end. They were common highway gears during that era. John

Like he said,I think it probably says R2,and maybe the leg of the "R" is not very visible

Look at the left column top row. This is from a 1970 chassis service manual. Just a conformation of what was already stated.
