gear/posi install kit

Is this everything I need to have my posi and new gears installed (71 8.5")? I don't want to take it somewhere and find out I need something else. I've already replaced the bearings on the axles. What would be a fair price for labor with axle out of car?

These aren't the gears I'm going to use.

A pic of the ring gear flange would show the carrier casting number.

Well, this is it. But it’s more jacked up than I thought and it looks like I’ll be looking for another one.

2 series posi they have a high 4 or low 5 ratio and spacer. ...What condition are the clutches as with that gear I WOULD SAY some ground pounding was a HAPPENING!...lol. 4.56-5.57 gear ratio I am sure.

The guy that had it had 410s on it. I assume he took a grinder to the bolts. I haven't check the clutches, but after seeing this I wonder. I have another set for it, but they have circular pattern on them, which is different than the ones I've seen pictures of. What's my most affordable option at this point? Could I find a new case and chuck these internals in it if they are good or should I buy something? I have brand new gears and I'm on a budget, but I don't want to have this done twice.

The posi case will still work...Just you have to use a spacer to make anything above 2.56 work. 2.73 - 5.57 with a spacer 2.41 2.56 with out the spacer.
410409
the 410408 is the 3 series. there are a ton of 410409 out there and I have installed MANY with a spacer and run them... as long as your not going into the 11 sec range you will be fine.

I have the spacer and I will have some power, but i won't be racing it. I was a bit concerned about the places the grinder abused it.

Those grind marks are far from making the case weak. Just ugly...lol.
1/4 swirl on the clutches is GM the square cross hatch is aftermarket...The Eaton Chevy posi clutches are square cross hatching too.
Does not make any difference. you have to disassemble the posi to inspect clutches ...just fan them out on the table and send a pick
The square tab is NEVER going to wear...So you can determine the wear from that area to the parts that do touch each other. Jim

I didn’t know that about the clutches. I guess I’ll learn how to take it apart and check them out before I get it installed. I don’t want to have to do this twice.

you sell the install kit with all the bearings? If so could you pm me info?

It appears that whoever did that figured out the left hand thread thing after getting half-way through grinding the bolt heads.
