Axle issues

Im in the process of rebuilding my diff for my 72 442. I have it pulled out and I believe it is a 8.5" 10 bolt. The crown measueres right around 8.5". The diff cover has the "nub" sticking out from 12 to 3 oclock. Does this all sound right for a 8.5" over 8.2"? I have two questions. I need a axle, since one is bent. So i went to a local yard and there was a 72 cutlass s that I got a axle out of. The thing is, its quite different, I was wondering if someone could tell me what this axle is out of.
LEFT= my original axle RIGHT = used axle from wrecker

Second is i need a new crown and pinion and possibly new posi, would this be good? any experience with it? thanks

The axle on the right looks like the one I took out of my 72 8.5 10 bolt diff.

the left one IDK maybe one of the more rear end knowledgable guys like Brian or Monaz can comment on it

I know some canada cars got a chevy rear not sure on any details for that

I've seen both coming out of Olds rear ends. But don't know enough to say what years/models had the open cone style bearings. Yes, there are members here can tell you and hopefully one of them will see your post soon.

Ya i gotta go pull another one, but I dont want to randomly go to every cutlass this guys has and pull an axle out of each one! Thanks for trying.
jfb, I just had my engine rebuilt fairly mildly, and dont forsee going extreme anytime soon. Ill look into moser anyway to see what they got.

You have an 8.5" 10-bolt under your car.
Both of the axles pictured are the same. The axle on the left has a newer bearing, with a different locking collar. The axle on the right has the original bearing with the factory locking collar. All of teh new bearings that you get will have the thicker style collar, like the one pictured on the left.
