67 p code axle

My 67 442 has it's born with 10 bolt "P" code SJ 3.55 posi rear axle. Long story, but the housing is hooped. I want to retain the originality as pretty much everything else is.

I know my obvious first choice solution would be to find another 67 P SJ housing.

Failing that, what year diff housings would be identical and allow me to transfer my internals and brake hardware? I first read 64-67 were the same width. Then read that 67 spring perches were different. Then read 67-72 were the same. Can any one tell me exactly what years and models might have a p axle that would have the identical exterior appearance and dimensions as my 67?

Additionally, in the same incident my driveshaft was damaged. I have the m21. I know I can have a shaft built, but it would be a single diameter shaft where my original is not. What other trans combination would have used this driveshaft length?

Oh, and if you have any of the parts I'm looking for I would love to hear from you.
Thanks for the help.

In 67 the 10 bolt cover P type rear was available as well as the 12 bolt cover Olds rear. So you have choices in that respect. Pontiac continued to use their 10 bolt cover rear thru 1970 I believe. I am not sure though if axle spline count changed and what would swap over from you rear. If you are concerned about having the original letter stamp code then you would need to find another 67 rear with that. I believe the 355 gear came standard in all stick cars (442 non AC) in 67 so they should be out there. As for the driveshaft the stick car 442's had a solid driveshaft not pieced together with rubber as the auto trans cars. I do not know if Pontiac also used a similar driveshaft.

Basically a 67 housing is a 67 only. The width is just a little different in 68 and the spring mounts are different in 66. So if you are looking to keep it all original then a 67 housing is a must. I can do a 10 bolt authentic 67 housing but, not that code. I suggest you get ahold of Greg Rollin at Supercars unlimited for more gear info.
The driveshafts from stick to the st300 auto do interchange but they are different. I might have a stick drive shaft too.
The housing I have is actually a fully functional rearend in a 67 but has 2:78 open gears.

you can reach me direct at lemoldsnut@aol.com

Hope this info helps

The width is not different. The Buick,Oldsmobile, and Pontiac had the narrower width rear for 64-65,then went to the wider rear for 66-72. The Chevelles did it differently. They used the narrower rear for 64-67,then the wider one for 68-72.
If you still need a correct housing,I have a pretty nice one,8.2" 10-bolt P-type.It's from 67 or 68. 28-spline axles with 27-spline pinion.
