Question 12 Bolt Rearend - Help?

I have a Chevy 12-Bolt rearend that I want to install on my 1984 Cutlass. What exactly do I need to swap them? Thanks...

Assuming this is a 68-72 A-body axle, you need adjustable aftermarket control arms with metal ball joints. The A-body axles have the control arm attach points in a different location and at a different angle than the G-body cars. Simply forcing the axle in place with the stock arms will bind the suspension. Also, be aware that the A-body axle is a couple of inches wider, so you'll eventually need rear wheels with different offset.

Also note that A-body 12 bolt axles are about worth their weight in gold to restorers. You may want to consider selling the 12 bolt and getting a correctly-configured 9 inch housing. You might actually come out ahead financially.

I guess I'm not really sure what the 12-Bolt came out of. It was loose when I bought it. How can I tell? Do I need to get both upper and lower control arms? What kind of money am I looking at? Thanks again...

When I measured it was 58 inches from the tip of one axle tube to the tip of the other. That sounds like a 68-72 chevelle rearend, right? I

12 bolt

Pictures always help... does it have bolt in axles or c-clip axles?

12 bolt olds has bolt axle from the outside and if you remove the drum you can see big holes drilled in the axle shaft for accessing the retain plate bolts also used to hold the backing plate on.
