I located a 10 Bolt Anti-Spin differential, don't know the ratio, but it's in a '72 Cutlass parts car. What would a fair price be?

I'm having a 12 bolt posi installed in my SX today and the guy is charging me $830. I've seen them go as high as $1,200.

I paid $250 for one with 3.73 gears, back in May of 2008.

anywhere from 4-600 would seem fair, and fully rebuilt would easily be 2/3 times that.

I bought a kit to rebuild mine and with the clutches it is over 400 just for the kit NO Labor!!

the days of finding posi rears for 100-200 bucks are coming to a close and deals like that are becoming like hens teeth to find...

The guy was asking $600 and I offered $500, so it sounds like we're close.
It's in a parts car, so I assume it will need rebuilt. But I'm not sure if I should go this route, or just rebuild my open rear end and add the limited slip parts?
Expert opinions and random guesses are welcome! (I'm pretty sure it's the corporate 10 bolt 8.5)

I have a quote of 990 to have my staock rear end re built and a possi carrier added with 3.42 gears.... sounds cheaper then what you are about to do (including parts to rebuild)

I would say 500.00 is a bit high for a rear end that is UNKNOWN. Especially when you do not even know the ratio which will modst likely be 2.56 or 2.73

If it is 2.56... You need to get it cheaper as you will need a spacer to use the posi carrier with 2.73 3.08 3.23 3.42 3.73 4.10 etc. ratios.

bearing kit 80-90 bucks gears 150.00 ish then cross your fingers the posi unit is good. some more labor for set-up of the parts 150-300 depending on the company you go with. OH axle bearings and seals will add to the price too. 60 buck for 2 bearings and seals.

Hope this helps.

Condition of the housing will be another factor in price of the rear too.

That's very helpful information, thanks. I'll use my factory manual to identify
the axle, and go from there. A local mechanic said it still could be cheaper to buy the anti-spin unit than to convert my peg-leg.

Yes I agree.... The likely hood the used 40 year old rear will be up to the task of the new engine and more horses everyone seems to be putting out these days you might be throwing money at a headache. REALLY do your home work.

If you spent good money on a motor and trans DO NOT go cheap on a rear . Trust us you will be sorry. Jim
