Here is what I've got:

ST 71 = Style/model year = 1971

33687:
3 = GM division = Oldsmobile
36 = model series = Cutlass S (V-8)
87 = body type = hardtop coupe

Z = assembly plant = Fremont CA

00400 BDY = Fisher plant body number (has no relation to the VIN)

TR 940 = interior color and front seat type = black interior with a split bench seat

75 75 PNT = lower and upper exterior body colors = matador red for both

BD? I suspect this might be "8D" which would be the time build code which would be the 4th week of August 1970 - an early production car

The other numbers have to do with the Fremont assembly plant of which no one really knows right now what they mean.

Thank you for the quick response. In reference to the 36 what is the difference between the S and Supreme? I noticed on NADA there was a difference?

 

Not only trim level but bodystyle, as an S was a semi-fastback while the Supreme was a formal hardtop.

 

36 was the code for Cutlass S, 57 and 56 were the codes for CS fastback and vert

Grills and interior trim were also different.
Base price for 1971 Cutlass S: 3141.00
Base price for 1971 Cutlass Supreme: 3322.00. Noteworthy - the CS was also offered in a convertible model (the S wasn't). CS vert base price: 3506.00

Cutlass Supreme was the top line Cutlass produced in 1971.
