RIMS ... what size?

Hey guys, I am at the rim buying stage of my build.

I have decided on the Weld Draglites. I just like the look. My question is, I am thinking of going with 15's and I wanted to know what is the biggest size I can fit in the back.

IE 15 x 10 and the offset. Have no idea what kind of offset I need with what size.

I'd like to go with 15 x 9 or 10 in the back and was thinking 15 x 7 or 8 in the front.

Anyone know for sure whaty wilkl fit.

Oh, it is a 69 Cutlass and will be totally stock rear and quarters.

Thanks

You need to pick a tire size before you can pick the correct rim size.

Well I gess that is part of my question. What size rubber can fit under the back end, and what size rim would I need to make it work. I'd like to go as big as I can, without the chance of anything rubbing, and counter the front with a nice staggered look.

I've successfully run 255/60-15s on the front of an Olds A-body using 15 x 7 SSII rims with stock backspacing. There was only very minor rubbing if I hit a bump with the wheels turned full lock (such as hitting the dip at the end of a driveway). I've also run 275/60-15s on the back on 15 x 10 aluminum rims, but I had insufficient backspacing and the tires rubbed on the fender lip. There was sufficient room on the backside, so rims with close to zero offset would have been the better choice.

My 69 442 has 295-50-15's on the rear with a 15x8 wheel with a 4 1/2" offset. They tuck under nicely. The front's, I can't say for sure because I have 15x3 1/2" front runners with a 195x15 tire.

Do you mean "offset" or "backspacing"? Offset is the distance that the wheel mounting flange is offset from the center of the rim. Backspacing is the measurement from the inboard edge of the rim to the wheel flange. If the flange is in the center, it's zero offset, and with an 8" wide rim it would have 4" backspacing. If the flange were flush with the inboard edge of the rim on your 8" rim, it would have 4" offset and zero backspacing.

For maximum safety and performance, rim and tread widths should be the same.

Sorry guy's, it is 4 1/2 back space. And I know tread versus rim width should match and that is why I'm changing them but the other's do fit. With the 295-50's they actually don't fit bad on an 8 inch wheel. Although the rims pictured are only 3 1/2" back space, I now have 4 1/2".

1965 F85 front tires rubbing

Appreciate any suggestions on tire size. I recently installed American Racing Torq Thrust D, 15x7, 3.75in backspacing with Cooper P215R70 tires. Have new stock height springs all way around so spring sack is not a problem. The front tires are rubbing not only on tight turns but also on large dips/bumps. From what I have read, 15x8 will work with 4.5" backspacing; measurements indicated I would have enough room dropping the width by an 1" with a 3/4" change in backspacing. Will 60 profile give me the clearance I need? Anyone else running 15x7 American Racing wheels?

Thank you.
Mark

Can anyone say that the BS between a 69 & 70 would/could/should be the same?

I know the outer wheel well and 'lip' must be different but...
would the inner housing and how it lines up with the frame be the same?

(I'm only asking because I run 5.5" BS on a 15x10 rim with 325's)
