heater/defroster help
Hi i have a 77 cutlass supreme its my first project car ever don't no nothing bout cars really but I'm trying to learn. So here is my problem my vents don't blow air except my bottom air vents my defroster and air vents on dash dose not blow Wat can be the problem and if so how much am I looking at to fix it
Look at the back of the engine for a vacuum line connected to the intake manifold. If the metal tee is there but no vacuum line, look for a round vacuum ball over on the passenger side near the heater blower and case. There should be two vacuum lines on it- one going into the firewall, the other going toward the engine. if it's disconnected from the engine, plug the vacuum line back to the intake and everything should work.
If everything underhood is in place, the problem is likely inside the car and behind the dashboard which is going to take some disassembly.
Word of advice- get yourself a 1977 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual- the one the factory printed. It will show you how to repair most anything on your car. Don't fool with a Chilton, Motor or especially a Haynes manual. They do not have the information the factory books do.

They're on ebay a lot, or sometime you might have to get one from a literature vendor which will be more expensive. Hey, those guys gotta eat too, just find one that doesn't want filet mignon all the time!
$20-40 should get you one in good shape and it's worth every penny. You want the Service Manual, not the Owner Manual that goes in the glovebox (though those are good to have too if car doesn't have one).

That's the book you want. It covers all 1977 Oldsmobile models from Starfire thru Toronado including the Cutlass.
I've heard mixed reviews of CD copies of the shop books. Some people feel the scan quality is not that good especially on wiring and vacuum diagrams, but these have the advantage that you can print out just the pages you need instead of dragging the whole book out.
