The car I recently bought had been sitting for about 8 years. I plan on changing out the gas tank. Has anyone recently purchased one? Any kind of feedback would be appreciated (sources, brands, etc)? I heard that the repros aren't very good.

I got mine out of a junkyard from a '68 Cutlass. Even then they messed it up. They wouldn't let me take it out myself and when they took it out, they just let it drop when the last bolt was removed and it bent the filler neck. Fortunately, I had another filler tube I could use.

I've heard that the Canadian-built repro gas tanks are good, just like their radiators.

I would check with your local radiator business. Most radiator businesses also deal in gas tanks and they should be able to tell you what's best. I don't know of specific brands. Another place to check might be ebay - they sell new gas tanks that also usually say "Canadian-made". But I believe your radiator man will tell you best!

Well, I pulled my tank yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to find about 2 gallons of gas still in the tank. After eight years in my father-in-laws field, I was sure the tank was going to have some rust in it. I 'm guessing the gas prevented it from rotting out. I'm going to take it to Mac's Radiator to have it cleaned. Thanks for the all the input.
