72 Cutlass Supreme w A/C front speaker removal

I got the 1/4 bolts out from the frame that holds the speaker but can't get the assembly past the duct that feeds the center A/C register. Any one fool with this? I know I can get at it if I remove the dash but I was trying to avoid that. Getting the new speaker back in looks to be more challenging than removing it.

I'll be following this thread carefully because I not only have to replace the front speaker, I have to remove my radio for repair. My car has AC.

Have you removed the clock gauge for access? That should help!

You don't need to remove dash. I had mine out when I changed radio. I had all the duct work removed and the radio and could see bottom of speaker w a small flashlight looking up from under. Oh You must remove seat! Mine is a bench and with removed I could lay down fairly comfortable I'm sure a console will make it more difficult...
