New hub kit and bearing seal
New hub kit and bearing seal
Hi all.
Just received new hub, drum and bearing kit from Original Auto for my 67 Cutlass. Nice, but I know im a newby with this question:
My old inner bearing seal had a lip and sat flush with hub after tapping on. This new hub and kit, the inner bearing seal is different. No lip. It sets down IN the hub on bearing but recessed. I assumed tap it in and go. (pvc pipe) But after thinking on it. I wonder. Is this correct? Also I am assuming if it is recessed in i need to tap it enough to set the bearing so there is no play? (Right now I can stick my finger in and the inner bearing moves up and down a hair) This seems like its not correct right there..guessing tap until there is NO play in that inner bearing?
thanks!!

The inner seal does not affect the bearing as far as setting it's free play. All that is done when the hub is placed on the spindle and the play is removed with the adjusting nut. Make sure the bearings are packed with grease properly before starting this process.
