Considering a possible 1971 Cutlass SX, same owner since 1982 (vehicle kept in climate storage). Vin #34267M220871 (picture distorted) and cowl tag attached, numbers matching. No paperwork to confirm SX (window sticker nor order form Lansing, MI car so no build sheet. Viking blue, L32 engine 455 cu/in. 320 h.p., 3.08 rear end ratio.

My concerns:SX Emblem improperly displayed, trunk caps on both side (is that normal, or it has the incorrect trunk), both front seats appear to be leaning lower towards the floor (is that normal, or some type of adjustment needed).

The owner is an older man selling a collection of his cars through a consignment shop. I am puzzled as to the placement of SX emblems. In 1982 he purchased it from the Auburn Auction and the car is originally from Arizonia. Hard to believe they were cloning during that time.

Yeah, I quoted from your second paragraph, so obviously I saw it. What is your concern with the trunk cap? Plus what are you referring to as a "trunk cap"?

 

I'll jump in and say I don't know what trump cap means either. The photo is too close and I have no idea what its supposed to represent. Can you cut loose with some more information? How about a trim tag pic? Can you link to more photos of the car?

 

Guys thanks for chiming in. Is the cap spacing on this trunk normal...that is all I am asking? As for the SX emblem, I realize they are incorrectly displayed. So the photo you showed is the forward corner of the deck lid?

Can you show pics of the rear portion of the deck lid - does it have the lettering across the back, or is it blank? No lettering may indicate a repro lid. Or it may be a hardtop Supreme lid that had the corners rounded to mimic a convertible deck lid.

From the pics, it looks like a very nice car, and personally I wouldn't worry about that minor detail.

if it is numbers matching - then it is a 455 powered convertible
doubt there is significant value difference Cutlass Supreme SX 455 VS. Cutlass Supreme 455 (color would probably affect value more)

If it is a 1971 Cutlass Supreme convertible, and it has a numbers matching 455 Engine and Turbo 400 transmission, then it is an SX. One of 357 built. Hope that answers your question.

Got a better side shot showing the whole fender showing the position of the Cutlass Script on the fender? To me it looks more like the Script is out of place, not the SX emblem
