Tilt Steering column swap

My project car is a '70 convertible floor shift, with a black steering column. My parts car is a '70 Supreme hardtop column shift, tilt wheel, & cruise control on the blinker handle with a gold steering column.

What I would like to know is, can I take the gold column with tilt and just use the part of that column on my black column? I am trying to avoid using the bottom half of gold steering column because you would see where the column shift handle was pinned in.

Sorry but I think I confused myself too.

Greg

What do you do with the column gear shifter mounts?

I think you can also purchase just the collar and replace it with one for a floor shift.

Send 2blu442 on this board a PM. He probably has what you need. I bought a tilt column shift for my 72 Cutlass from him. John is a good guy, staight shooter and his prices are fair.

The part you need is called a "shift bowl" and it is different between tilt and non-tilt columns. The good news is that the shift bowl can be changed from column to floor shift models. I don't know if you can buy them, but the upper part of the GM column is the same well into the 1970s and early 1980s, so you can usually score a cheap shift bowl from a Camaro (for example).
