Tail lights.

Anyone ever tried to take the '75 tail lights apart?
Mine the chromed plastic arond the red lens is pitted cracking, but not flaking off. Don't know how to explain it better.
My cars glass trim around the whindsheild and rear glass are painted not stainless brightwork. The paint wasn't the body color but the vinyl top darker blue of the top. No idea if this was standard affair on the salon model/trim.
The headlight surrounds are also pitted/cracking but are some form of cast metal. Because I don't want a 2 grand chrome shop bill. My thought is to color match the headlight surrounds (leaving the lip chrome) the trim around the front and rear glass, the tail light chrome around the lens and the wheels. A gunmetal/charcoal tone . To go with the light blue body paint. Wish I could find a model of my car to try the color combo on first to see what it look like before hand.
The question is what should I use to scuff the chrome areas I plan on painting so it has a chance of sticking and not flaking off in spots in a year? The window trim is texured so That might need a light touch with a dry ice blaster or other. The plan is to put a dark gray of charcoal top back on instead of the navy blue. This is why I'd love to find a model of the car to do this to first before I commit to it and then get it al done and stand back and hate it. Car is a driver, so a rechrome is out of the question.
oh, back to the original question is the red lens glued to the chrome surround of the tail light or is it seperate parts?
OMG the ADHD in this post. sorry guys.

OK, the tail light lens is separate from the chrome surround on your salon and I believe they’re almost identical to the 74 that I have.

Salon vinyl top trim is textured and is supposed to match the vinyl top color. There will be some variation between the metal and the vinyl due to sun exposure, etc. unless it’s black like mine lol

Not sure on your plans to paint the headlight doors as the chrome surrounding pieces are called.
