Rear bumper question 1967 Cutlass

Hello and thank all of you in advance for any help you can give me. I just joined the site and introduced myself on the newbie page. I have a '67 Cutlass convertible in the shop that has me stumped a bit. The question I have is concerning the rear bumper. This car has a '66 rear bumper with the reverse lights located under the tail lights but I only see '67s with reverse lights next to the license plate. Did GM back in the day use up '66 bumpers on early '67s? The wiring appears to be correct with grommets out at the edges of the trunk, but there is also 2 grommets not being used toward the center of the trunk where the wires would normally go through for the '67 lights. Any insight would be appreciated.

This scenario is kinda confusing. The 66 has longer tail lights than the 67 and the bumper under them has a recess or cutout for the longer tailight bezel. The 67 uses a straight rear bumper under the tailights. There are 2, 67 rear bumpers, one for the Supreme that has reverse lights more centered near the plate mount while the other has no reverse light cutouts. Some pictures would help...

66, 67 Cutlass, and 67 442 pictured here. The 67 442 and Cutlass Supreme have the reverse lights by the tag and 4 tail lights. The 67 Cutlass and F-85 have two tail lights on top and reverse in the bottom.

Nice job Koda.
That 67 442 has that rear
trunk molding we have been discussing.

If the OP needs a Supreme rear bumper
core, like pictured in the 67 442 above,
I have one available, $100.

Good morning and thank you for the super quick answers to my question. Thank you Oldsmaniac for the description, yes it is confusing just a bit. But it makes more sense now. Thank you to Koda for the pics, that helped a lot too. What was goofing me up is when I would google images of '66 and '67 cutlass for a pic, the long taillight bumper of the '66 didn't come up, just the bumper with the outboard reverse lights. And the '67 bumper would come as the one with the inboard lights. You know a person learns something everyday! I have attached pics as requested. Thanks again

That 67 appears to be in correct trim for what it is, which is a non-Supreme 67 Cutlass.

There is another, incorrect option, which never came from the factory, and which I jokingly call the "Reverse Delete Option." Some people with the non-Supreme bumper convert the outside reverse lights to brake lights, and then just have no reverse lights.

Things that make you go "hrrrrrrrm."

Funny how Olds did the two ops
for a 67 A body. His car shows the
Cutlass rear trunk molding without
the paint. Helps to put an end to
the 'Believed to be for a 67 442
thread'. Cool.

Thanks Craig, just introducing
yourself has helped already.
Welcome if I didn't say so yet, Adam.
