rarity of 1968 cutlass
i recently acquired a 1968 cutlass s. the car is a convertible with ac, cruise, tilt, power steering, windows and brakes. However it has head rests on the seats which are 68 seats with the side release and the passenger has recline option. the car is in very rough condition however i believe all original besides motor. anyone know how many had these options, especially the headrests? any info would be much appreciated.

Headrests and passenger reclining seat are fairly rare options and I think I've read somewhere where the headrest option was included with the recliner.
The other options, while not exactly common, are typical of the way many Cutlass convertibles were optioned in the late 60s. It was considered "upscale" compared to the Chevelle and LeMans ragtops.
How rough is "rough"?

You are correct. The headrests were available on the standard buckets, which was rare in 68, and the recliner was an additional option with the headrests. I've only seen a 68 recliner in pictures.

Bucket seats
Bucket seats were standard equipment on '68 442's and any convertable...it was a no cost option for bench seat for these cars...the head rests had to be ordered with the recliner option...front and rear shoulder belts on a convert would be really rare...

F-85: no buckets
Cutlass: Buckets std on converts, bench a $68.46 deduction.
buckets optional on coupes
Cutlass Supreme: buckets std on coupes, bench no charge option.
442: buckets standard, bench a $68.46 deduction.
Head restraints were "recommended", not required with reclining bucket.
Bucket/headrest/recliner availability was similar for '66 and '67. I have a pair of '66 Cutlass buckets with a recliner and no headrests. That is rare!
