Question about bucket seats for a 1968 Cutlass

My son has a 68 Cutlass with a bench, and he wants to convert to buckets. Would any A-Body seats from 68-72 work? What about 1966 or 1967's if I found a pair? Any help would be appreciated, thanks, Troy

All will fit from 66-72. The differences are as follows. All years have different upholstery so not going to point that out.

66 strato bucket seat same as 67 except with no locking back

67 same as 66 except has a locking back also the same as 68 but 68 has plastic side and back trim

68 same as 67 except has plastic back and lower side trim.

(note that each of the previous years also had power seat available as well as passenger reclining seat and headrests) None of that was standard with bucket seats in those three years.

69-72 has the same style seats with headrests just pattern differences.

Hope this helps

Headrests were also an option for the 66-68 model years. They became a requirement starting in model year 1969.

A couple more notes...

68 seat frames have the later style openings inside them for headrests tubes (true 68 headrest equipped seats are extremely rare and the true 68 lock bezels are unobtainium- but its easy to add headrests to a 68 seat frame using the 69-72 tubes & lock bezels.) There are minor differences between the 69 & 70-72 headrest posts, the indent locations changed (i can't remember exactly, so you'll want to match your lock positions to the headrest posts you have.

66 & 67 seats both use the early style headrests & mounting hardware.

B-Body and X-body (nova) strato buckets are also the same, but you'll need to change the tracks over to the a-body tracks, which are available in the aftermarket.
