For all seven digit Qjet numbers, the third character is the decade (2=1960s, 4=1970s). The fourth character is the model year. 7042xxx is 1972. The last three are the specific application, which for this case is the Toro as noted above.

Thank you i have been cleaning out my grandfathers garage on the weekends and found that carb looks to be in very good condition what do you think it might be worth? I seen some high dollar q jets but they were for 442's ending in 253, 257,258 Thanks

There’s a huge range of prices with qjets.
I prefer 75 & later 170-series which are totally incorrect for my ‘66’s. I’ve paid $25 in the boneyard for a few cores back in the days. I usually pay about $500 for a professional rebuild from SMI, but their prices are up recently. Hit eBay to see what model- & engine-correct carb prices run. I’ve seen prices north of $1,000 for the right 442, GTO, Buick GS or Vette carb.
To each his (or her) own, but I’m more on the function over form side of the spectrum since, well, they meter flammable fuel. >$1,000 for a used carb, just because it has the right code on the body is nuts to me. But if you’re on the show field competing for a trophy the $ might be worth it to you.
There definitely are some magic & high dollar carb codes, I hope you have one and can get a great price for it. Your grandfather may well have saved that unit for its rarity.
Cheers
