More Distributor Questions 1972

I am still trying to assure that my 350 is running correctly and reliably. Previous threads I have had issues with a Pertronix module failure and 12 volts full time to points, causing them to fail.

I haven't driven my car in a week or a week and a half. I put a points distributor in it and after the points welded one contact to the other after a few days, I changed points, removed what I thought was the full time 12 volt wire and it has run fine, but very limited use.

I decided to check things out, and discovered that the wire that had been added to the coil +, has no voltage in start or run position. Then I checked the factory black/pink (resistor) with yellow connected together, and I discovered it has a full 12 volts in the RUN position. I guess someone altered the wiring somewhere and converted it to 12 volts, which is fine for the Pertronix, but not so good for the points.

Am I correct, that a stock system should have only 6 volts in the run position? If so, it is fine if I reinstall a Pertronix, but it will again burn up my points with full 12 volts. Someone suggested previously that it would probably take a few days/miles to damage the points.

It points out the uncertainty of knowing what a previous owner did to the car.

Is it a very stiff wire comared to the other one its attached with? It may not read 8-9 volts unless it has a load (connected to the coil +) on it and engine running.
