lug nuts, way too plain !

'69 Cutlass 'S' , I think the wheels are the SSII, (?) original wheels, anyway ..... what are the lug nuts supposed to like ? Mine are just silver painted exposed lugnuts. Is this normal for this car ? or maybe the they should be chrome ? or even chrome acorn styles ? just seems a little plain to me !! .thanks

The original style lug nuts had a stainless steel cap over them. Reproductions are available through Fusick, part number WN714 (set of 20) for $46.00 plus shipping.

I got the repro set and they look pretty close to original.

If authenticity isn't important to you, I replaced my beat up original capped lugnuts with chromed solid acorn nuts from the local auto parts store. They resemble the originals fairly closely, and you don't have to deal with the caps coming loose. They're a little less expensive than the repros too (around $6 for a pack of 4).

I just ordered a set from Fusick yesterday. They are pricey, but I like the quality of their parts. The shipping charge I think is out of line a little, so try to order other stuff you need to stay in the dollar range they base their shipping on. I paid $12. They recently increased their shipping cost. Chumley

The reason Olds used the stainless caps is because the chromed aftermarket lug nuts will rust immediately. I bought brand new chrome lug nuts for the aluminum slot mags on my 62 and within two weeks they were rusting. No, I did not use an impact wrench on them and I carefully tightened them with a torque wrench and a six point socket. Chinesium crap...

Parts Place has some, they have 2 listed, one says chrome (?) nuts and other one says covered nuts,,, s'pose I should check to see if they are stainless, also I assume the covered ones would be most correct?
