Lightning rods in a 72 Cutlass

Does anyone know if you can put a set of lightning rods in a 72 Cutlass?
Has anyone seen it done before?

they made a 3 speed version of the lightning rods. those will work on any TH 350 or TH400 car. if you installed a 200 4R you would have to use a set from an 83 or 84 Hurst Olds because they were 4 speeds. they are to wide to be able to adapt them to an original 70 to 72 console.

There was an aftermarket Lightning Rods shifter too. It came with a black plastic and brushed aluminum cover kind of like the 68-9 Hurst/Olds DualGate.

When I look at the original post it does read kind of funny. I guess I should have mentioned that I meant Hurst Lighting rods.

We called them "vertical gate " shifters in my day. My friend put one in his '69 Roadrunner. The hardest part was getting the thing into reverse. You needed forearms like Popeye. Chumley

You sure about that? This is what Hurst calls a "vertical gate" shifter:

Old thread, but curious if the OP ever installed a set? The boy has decided, after paying for non-oxegenated premium gas during the summer, that he wants to upgrade to a TH200R4. He already expressed an interest in going with buckets and a console anyway so a set from a 83-84 Hurst/Olds with the matching console would be an awesome addition. Update??

I would just do a regular console to keep the car looking correct and use the Shift Works 4 speed adapter kit for a factory 3 speed floor shifter:

Obviously not as wild looking as the Lightning Rods, but infinitely easier to install.

Well intended post I am sure but Vertical Gate shifters have nothing to do with this discussion on Lightning Rod shifters.....totally different animal.
