Lead in Gas

Lead in Gas

I have a all stock 69 cutlass never been rebuilt 350 with 133000 mile .I have been told i don't need to add lead to my gas any more because today gas is full of additives??

I heard the main reason for lead was, that the valve seats werent hardened? and the lead helped with this? so if there isnt any lead, i wouldnt mess around till this was definitely confirmed. Though, you could always do a stock rebuild and then you wouldnt have to worry about this, or reliability ever again.

69 didn't have hardened seats. Use a lead additive or you can have valve recession and have problems getting the heads redone well later....plus the lost flow and screwed up valvetrain geometry now.
