when i start my olds it has a high idle,when i kick it off fast idle it dies. the original carb was messed up in a fire so i bought one from pull and save maybe i need to get one with the same numbers. everything looks the same but it might be different inside. does this sound plasible?

 

Sounds like it may be a simple adjustment. The fast idle cam opens the throttle plate wider (car runs) than when you kick it down to the normal idle set position (plate closes too tight and car dies). Have you adjusted the idle set screw up a couple turns to try and hold idle?

Just a crazy thought but your next post can become a master "Build Thread" that you contain all your questions and responses in. Basically a single progress thread adding items as they come along rather than multiple single posts. Readers catching your random posts often don't even know what year/model car you're asking about. Create a new, single "build" post where the first post describes your car clearly and asks questions listed. Following responses chain as future questions are added. This method is cleaner for members to review and reply.
