Heater core

Hi all,

In December, I bought my 72 cutlass convertible. The car came from California. For obvious reasons, the man I purchased it from did not have the heat hooked up. Since I am in Missouri and fall will be here before you know it, I would like to get the heat working. I have no idea if heat has EVER been hooked up. The man I purchased it from had it for 5 years. He stated he never used the heat. Do I hook it up and hope it has no leaks, or should I go through the trouble of replacing it? Any thoughts/comments will be appreciated.

There is more the likely a reason the heater was not hooked up. Usually the heater core is shot when this happens. You could try hooking it up and see if it leaks but be ware this could cause a mess inside the car if it is leaking. Best bet is to remove the heater core and take it to a radiator shop and have it tested. then repair or replace if necessary.
