On the suggestion on a recent forum, I bought and installed a Hayden 2747 Fan Clutch. WOW! What a difference. I had recently installed a new 4 core radiator I had with a 180 thermostat, and it lowered my temperature somewhat, but it still ran 205 to 210 with A/C on in stop and go in south Florida. And worst of all, it took a few minutes of steady non stop driving to get it down below 200. Although that is not too high, I like to see it lower.

Since I added the 2747 clutch, it runs at a steady 180 at 60-65 mph with the A/C on, and maybe up to 185 in stop and go, and with the A/C off, it struggles to get to 180. It does roar a little bit from moving more air, but it really helps cooling.

I am pretty much just a stock 1972 convertible with 350 and 350thm transmission and 2.73 gears.

My car has the same symptoms as yours with the A/C on in stop and go traffic. I'm currently running a 180 stat and was thinking of putting in a 160 stat to lower the temp a little in traffic.. You have me thinking of doing both.... stat and clutch change.. Where did you get your clutch from?

I bought it from Amazon. It came to $57 with shipping and I had it in a couple days. I'm not sure what a 160 would do. Some guys say it really doesn't have that much effect on what temperature the engines runs at, only what temperature it starts the coolant flow. That clutch definitely made a huge difference for me.

Brown, I pulled the trigger and ordered the clutch. I ordered mines from Summit for $49.00. I dont order much from Amazon anymore because after much pressure from the state of Texas, they now charge sales taxes on all purchases here. In my experience, 160 stat will cool your engine better than a 180, again, my experience... Thanks, for sharing....
