Front wheel/tire size on a 64
Joe,
I hate to hijack littlejm3's thread, but my 1964 F85 running 8" rims with 5.5" backspace and 225 tire rub when turning lock to lock over the slightest bumps- specially when I have any passengers as I myself am 6'2" and 330lbs. I thought these cars were able to accept a 0 offset? How in the world would an 8" rim with 4.5" backspace work? Tires are 26" tall.

I started a new thread for you, not so much for the hijacking as the fact that the original thread had been dead for over two years.
You didn't specify the tire size. I assume that at 26" tall they must be a 225/60-15? In any case, did you really mean 5.5" backspacing? That's like FWD territory - or newer Corvette. It's about 1.5" of positive offset. I'm guessing your tires are rubbing on the inside, not the outside? If so, you should either get wheels with near zero offset or get wheel spacers. If you go the spacer route, be sure to get piloted spacers that both pilot on the hub and in turn provide a hub-centric pilot for the wheels. They aren't cheap, but they are the best. A 225 on the front of a 64-67 A-body should be no problem with the right offset.

Tire size is 225/45/18.
Yes 5.5" backspace.... and the tires have already bent up the stainless trim on the wheel well. It's hitting the fender lip...... bad.
I can't imagine how far they'd stick out with a 0 offset. I'm having hell looking for rims that have 2.75" or less from the brake drum mounting surface to the inner lip of outer wheel well.
With the suspension un-sprung hanging on jackstands they look to fit fine, but when the car is down (OE worn out springs) the tires are super close to the lip making turning an issue. The 5.5" rear fits absolutely perfect.... could possibly use 5.25 if needed on the 18x8" rims.
