Considering an A body cutlass.

Hello,
A little update for me I chose to reroute on my 63 cutlass builds. After much learning, advice, and long nights I will be no longer be building my unibody cutlass. The money for the build would of been too much. Thank for all who have helped me along my way. I have sold the convertible for double then what I paid and have the post 2door 63 parts car for sale for 800. I will now be looking for a 64-67 a body. I have a 66 cutlass in my market with a 330 for a good price 1500.. The 64-65 models have more of a square body where the 66-67 are more curvy. Any other differences between the both? Are there any weight difference? I am also into the 65 skylarks to be honest.. any tips for me or suggestions?
I plan to put a big block olds in it and stick shift.
God bless U guys
Ronnie.

The 66/67's have nice lines to be sure. I'd sure be looking for one myself if I wasn't overrun with 70-72s at the moment. Good luck with your search!

Probably a better choice. Parts are more plentiful and a lot of flexibility in power trains.

that was a big big reason as well. Amongst others

I like the 68/72 too but I think most likely I'll be getting a 64-67 but who knows with me lol

I'm fond of the 64-67's, you don't see many anymore. At car shows I'm usually the only one of the handful of Oldsmobiles that show up.

At first the grill was unattractive to me but now I like it alot, even looks aerodynamic. The dash on these cars is done very well too. The 70's dash are very nice too with a sporty look

Good luck with your new direction... As for choices, I am a little bias toward 66/67 when it comes to the early A-Bodies... Can't imagine why...

I have read that in 67 gm came with mandatory saftey upgrades like turning lights and a telescopic steering column. Is that to say that 66 cutlass does not have this steering column. Will they interchange and will a 67 column go in a 65 theorically? I've always wanted a safe steering column in my classic and was always a plan for me to see how to upgrade to one.
Thanks

64-66 interchange easily...67 the switch is diff etc....but ive put a half dozen 67 columns in 66s..i just pull the pins on the connector and move them around with no problems and the turns switches work..no real problem..and 67 is collapsible as said..a good upgrade

67 columns are expensive now...1 year only..

67s got dual reserve master cylinders, and thats an excellent upgrade for a 64-66 .

So the 67 is just not in my price range. I got a separate account just for cars and I won't go broke for them LIKE I'VE DONE in the past.🙈

went to go see the 66. And the guys had her for 9 years and didn't know she was a post Beatiful she was, inside was classy. Center consoul tachometer. But she was a post. Engine looked real clean ran one day. But she was a post. Did go with her i cam send you the owners number, lives in Pasadena ,ca. pm me. He had it for 1500, can looked like he would do 900. Shoot even 850 hahaha I know the type lol.

I had other prospects from other brands like malibu, tempest , gs, skylark, tempest and lemans if the price and year was right.

So I went on my A body hunt to see a 67 tempest form the looks of the picture on Craigslist I KNEW I would need the floors in the trunk, but not it was worse , i opened up the passenger door and seen a hole as big an Apple right away. I crawled under, shot.

Had a nice clean big i6 that people like. Guess what????? It was a post car too 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yup. Another guy who didn't get the whole hard top doesn't mean your car has a roof.
Had to pass. I want a good start. That ain't it.

Also passed on a 65 chevelle for the same reasons, it was bare. No nothing.

Passed on this skylark bellow because the man acted like I was gold on wheels because it ran with original 300. Interior was shot. Obvious side damage. Bondo Wondo

He wanted all my budget, plus more.

Called a guy about a 65 Skylark he had in a ad for 3k with A chevy 350 from the 80's (in his ad he said swap not finished) we talked and I told him I have no want for a chevy setup in a buick, got the price lowered to 2k and i drove over there to go see it. It had nice dark red interior leather. No rips. Strait body. Black plates/California. Looked good underneath. Missing nothing. So I went with it, I struck a deal with the guy for 1700 no engine and transmission. I like it alot. Bing

So would I... I think they have a more muscular image then the hardtops... Probably why many 66 & 67 W30's are post cars... Don't know the actual numbers, JMO...

Way back when no one would do a post car as they were the cheap of cheap offerings. They ranked one step over a more door. We've mostly changed our attitudes since then.

I want a big block with a stick shift. The 455 is on the top of my list, but I wonder if that is a tall order.
