Can I get ANOTHER cowl tag decoded?

It reads :

7236687 G110 647 BDY

TR 947 A52 26A

050 D

I was able decode the VIN #:

Year:1972Division:OldsmobileSeries:Cutlass SBody:Holiday Hardtop (2 door)Engine:350 (5.7) V8 2BBLPlant:Framingham, MA

Curious what else the cowl will tell us.

Thanks

ST 72 = style/model year = 1972

33687 (you wrote 36687 but I think you've put a 6 where a 3 should be) = Oldsmobile (3) Cutlass S (36) hardtop coupe (87)

G = assembly plant = Framingham MA

110647 BDY = assembly plant body number (for internal plant use - has nothing to do with the VIN)

TR 947 = split bench seat in front with white interior

A52 = option code = conventional bench seat

26A = ? (I think this is another option code)

050 D = ? Are you sure of this or is it 05D? 05D would be the time build code which, if it is 05D, would be the the fourth week (D) of May (05) 1972.

Hope someone else can chime in on this to make sure I'm right on what I commented on, plus add the "26A" info.

Randy,
TR947 would not be a split bench seat. It is just the color of the interior trim - which is white as you indicated. The code for the armrest seat which was not available on the Cutlass S is A65. If the car had buckets the cowl would show option A51 - strato bucket seats.
26 A is actually broken down as a Paint/vinyl top combo
26 = Viking Blue lower body
A = white vinyl top. But it should actually be code AA to be right for 72

re: 33687 that is correct for the cowl tag of a 72 Cutlass S. The OP probably did transpose and extra 6

EDIT: did you mean a bench seat with the split back instead of a plain bench seat? The A52 was the standard split bench seat for Cutlass S.

I see the errors of my way now. The 947 code stands only for the color (white) of the interior. The A52 option code applies to the type of front seat installed.

And I completely missed the paint code. I have it but I just didn't read it right and it perplexed me until you put the light on it!

Thanks for clarifying.

How about trim code 987 and paint code T8 on a 68 Cutlass. Thanks

987: parchment color, all vinyl interior, notch-bench seat (has a folding center arm rest) on a Cutlass Supreme Holiday coupe.

T8: lower body color is Ivory (T) with a gold vinyl top (8).

I highly recommend that you join www.wildaboutcars.com. It's free. They also have a complete '68 Cutlass/4-4-2 assembly manual, outstanding print quality, that you can download, also for free. There is so much information in those manuals that, in my opinion, they are a must-have item for older collector cars.

Thanks for your help. The car in question has been repainted white, not the correct one, and the interior is black. My research came up with a gold vinyl top as well. I just wanted a second opinion. I think that is a very unusual color combination, I have never seen that before. Where can I find out how many cars had that color combination? Thank You again for your help!

There are no GM records to answer that question; they simply were not documented.

Concerning the parchment interior. Would the dash, steering column, and maybe some other pieces be black and the rest parchment ? Do you have any photos of
a 1968 parchment interior ? I appreciate your help, Thanks.

Dash would be black because of the reflective quality of light colors onto the windshield. The dash, steering column, plus the carpeting (floor, door panels) and parcel shelf would be black too. I have a pic of a 72 CS and vert that illustrates most of what I am trying to describe. The 442 is pretty ugly looking inside, but you can see that even the console is black. You will get the general idea.
EDIT: here is a pic of 72 Parchment interior
