ok just wanted to make a thread bout my car's history and its status....my mom bought this car in 96' it had 36,000 miles on it at the moment it has about......246,000 miles the only problem i can recall ever having happen to it was the alternator went out and it runs kinda hot during the summer but thats it, in short comings i know somethings going to happen too it soon god forbid being its my only ride -.- right now its fine cept that all the plastic part are sun rottin and my window motors don't work because water leaks in the doors and a number of other things that bother me. i'd like to rebuild it but i dislike it being frontwheel drive (although the reverse donuts kick ***) and i'm 18 and about to enter the workforce broke i'm going into corrections for good money but i might as well sell it down the road. i really want a 86' or 87' 442 heres a pic i'll get more later

 

I would say you have a good plan. Lots of people forget that you can work and save and buy when you have the cash. I would say concentrate on the drive-ability of the car since it is your daily driver. To that end, flush the coolant system and replace the thermostat maybe that will get rid of the over heating problem. Good luck.
