84 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Good Morning All,

I'm new to forum. I just bought a 84 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It will be a major project. Where should I start to get it right? The car is driveable. I know I have a transmission leak. It smokes in the engine compartment after running for a while. The leak is hitting something hot which causes it to smoke. It needs work all around. I'm guessing to start with the engine and transmission. Does anybody have the location to start with 84 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme engine repair on the forum? I know it's alot. Any help would be helpful

Engine: 307

I would fix the leaks. The smoke in the engine compartment is probably valve covers. For trans, just clean up the excess, get under there and swim upstream to the offending leak. I've found placing a large sheet of card board under the car will show the general area of the leak. Lay on your back and look up.

You might want to consider a factory chasis manual for your model car. Extremely helpful!

After the leaks are fixed, I'd check brakes, wheel bearings, and do a tuneup. Cosmetic repairs are last in my book!

Good luck and welcome! Oh and pic's are always appreciated!

Your first book should be this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oldsmobile-1...item2c62257483

These are up for sale on ebay all the time, and you might be able to find a lower price if you hunt around.

Yes it does. It's the first model listed, followed by Delta 88 Royale, Custom Cruiser, Ninety-Eight, and Toronado.

The Amazon link you provided is the exact same book. However, your link shows them available for a lot less money ($18.00 total with shipping for the cheapest one). I'd go with the Amazon offer. You have the protection there of Amazon itself as well as, if there are any problems, Amazon works to get them resolved or get your money back. Ebay is always a tiny bit more of a crapshoot.
