'70 Cutlass s/x
'70 Cutlass s/x
Hi, All, I got a line today on a '70 Cutlass s/x, 455, auto.
It's a strong runner and doesnt' need any thing but a radio.
Guys, I dont know jack s##t about anything newer than '64.
Is this car worth $4000?
Please advise, Thanks, Jeff
BTW, whats the difference between this and a 442?

Those things are awesome.
I'd get it.
Go to
www.sx455.com
for some cool pics and junk
It's better than blowing 10 bucks on smokes and taco bell.

If I post the VIN can we find out exactly what it is? (they want money for the info on the sx site)
I don't think there were many W-32s
A lot of these just seem like regular cutlasses with cool bumpers.
But even so, they are still cool. I'd definitly do some detective work.
You may have found a gem , or a regular cutlass, either way 4 grand seems do able if it is a really nice one.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that is what the site is all about.
Finding lost SX cars
and registering them to see what survived.
the 10 bucks thing is kinda lame, but hey. You never know what you're gonna find.
Like playing the lottery every week, expect to lose, but maybe just maybe.

I really don't know much more about them than that.
That's why I said you'd probably be better off giving them the 10bucks instead of going to taco bell
I wish I could help more, but I kinda missed the boat on those, being born in 82

Hey, dont feel pregnant, I was born in '62 and you knew more about them than I did.
Thanks for your input, Jeff
maybe I'll spend the ten bucks

it is extremely easy to clone a SX. the only way to 100% document one is the original invoices, window sticker, or build (tank) sheet. the VIN will only tell you body style, assembly plant and 6 or 8 cylinder. the sheets are located in the back seat lower springs or on top of the gas tank. the sx455.com site can give the the complete 411 about what to look for. many cloners overlook the extra fender brace on the front fender. if it indeed a true SX it would be worth $4,000.
the only way to get a 455 in a supreme body from the factory in 70 and 71 was with the Y79 option. 442's were the "S" body style. the SX's had softer suspensions and higher (read lower numerical) gear ratios. mine has 2.73s and will melt the tires in 1st and 2nd. the supreme interiors were a little more refined than the S's
good luck

I'm one of the co-founders of the SX455 site. Is the info helpful? It costs a sh*tload more than $10 to host that site annually and we put dozens of hours a year to maintain that site to help others in situations like yours. $10 just helps us defray costs a little and can save you from buying a bogus car or can help verify that you found a gem. I probably just gave you the $10 worth of info and I hope it helps you out. Please send me some pics and info on the car in return, please. I'd like to add it to the site.
Thanks -
Terry
You go Terry! Terry knows just about everything you would want to know about the SX Cutlass. I have a Production code A and B sheet for my SX. One has the codes for the 455 and th400 to show it is a trus SX, not a W-32 though, damnit!
OK, Terry, I'll look into this further.
If and when I buy this car (it's not on the market, a friend of mine owns it) I WILL supply you with all the info and post pics. Also i'm joining your site.
THANK YOU, Jeff

Hopefully the block is original but the quadrajet is unlikely and the EGR valved intake sure doesn't belong. Rest of the car looks right enough except for the unusual (to me) side mirror. I'd be very wary of rust.
The car looks really good overall. I agree that the mirror is not an original piece.
Here's a link on my V Code site to where to find the block VIN.

Check the VIN on the OG trans too - if it matches, the car was a W32.
