Hi everyone. New here, and hopefully soon, a new owner of a 68 cutlass.
I found a 1986 cutlass supreme I am very interested in and looking for any advice of things to look for before buying. I've wanted a late 60s olds ever since high school so I'm worried about becoming emotionally compromised and missing a major warning signs just because I really want it.
Seller says it runs and has been his daily driver. Exterior appears to be in good shape although it needs paint. Interior is in rough shape. asking price is $6k.
Im looking for any advice as to what to look for on this particular vehicle, known issues or red flags to be aware of. Any help would be much appreciated.

Just remember that on average your looking at $12-15k to restore it to a decent safe driver including paint and interior. You can deduct from that total anything that has been done previously like engine rebuild, trans, brakes, front end, etc... Inspect everything underneath for rust repairs, rot is your biggest enemy with these cars.
That's not a Cutlass Supreme. The only two door Supreme offered in 1968 was the Holiday Coupe (hardtop). This is a Sport Coupe (post). The fact that it apparently says "Cutlass Supreme" on the glovebox door just means that part has been changed (along with who knows what else). The VIN will tell you exactly what it is. There were only three Sport coupe models offered in 1968, each with unique VINs. The F-85 Club Coupe will have a VIN that starts either 331778... (for a six cylinder car) or 332778... (for a V8). The Cutlass S Sport Coupe will have a VIN that starts 335778... (six cylinder) or 336778... (V8). The 442 Sport Coupe will have a VIN that starts 344778...
If this car has any other VIN tag, run, don't walk, away. Good luck.

i had wondered about that but didn't know how to tell the difference without the VIN.
