68 Olds Cutlass ??? W-31

I ran across a 68 Cutlass , its has a 12 bolt (factory) rear end posi, 400 turbo (factory) 350 4 barrel , how can I find out if its a w 31 ? I know my w 30 cars because I owned one, since this car is sitting in a bone yard the body does need help, and has a repaint from what I heard, what do I need to look for number wise and code wise on the transmission, and engine, and BTW did some 68 Cutlass's have 400 turbo standard? and I thiught that most cars came thru with 10 bolt rearends and 350 turbo's with the standard 350 for 68 thanks Joe

Couple of things. In 1968, no Cutlass models came with a factory-installed TH400. Only BBO cars got them and the only Cutlii with a factory-installed BBO was the 442 and the Vista Cruiser. The 442 had a unique VIN in 1968.

No 1968 W-31s came with a factory-installed automatic.

All 1968 Cutlii came with a "12-bolt" rear axle. All the US-built ones were the Type O axle that were really 10-bolt ring gear axles with a 12 bolt cover. Canadian-built cars got the true Chevy 12-bolt.

Has to be a 4-speed car and have Factory 4-speed. Check the floor for an original 4 speed hump. Also has to be built in Lansing Michigan, "M" in the VIN number. Should have black wheel wells with large 4" round cutouts for the ram air. see pic

In 1968 they were known as "Ram Rod 350". I know where an all original Ram Rod 350 in Idaho but its real sick and in a junk yard

Finding a Ram Rod 350 is like finding a needle in a hay stack

Hasn't it been established that was at least one 3-spd manual made?
The M14, M20 and M21 were the available transmissions.

There is a 68 ramrod here that is a 3-speed manual with a 3.91 non-posi.
