68 cutlass s - reality check

All, I found a 68 cutlass s convertible Im thinking of buying. Its a no rust vehicle that runs and drives as is. It has a 350 with a 2 bbl. Its around 15k, does this seem reasonable? Also a couple of other questions;

Did the 68's come with front disk?
Are there any other things to look for as possible trouble?

I cant go look at this car since it far away. I have to rely on pictures.

You mean $15,000 right? It is hard to say without seeing the car or pictures at least, as you said. Convertablesdo bring a nice penny though. Maybe you can contact someone in the OCA in the area where the car is to look it over for you or maybe someone on this site or a similar Oldsmobile site. Tell us where the car is.

My opinion is that the car needs to be near mint to fetch 15G's.....never buy a car sight unseen......Never.

The car is in Pheonix, AZ, do you know of anyone in that area? Living in buffalo NY, Often time sight unseen (pictures only) is better than sight seen. I hate rust, been there done it with another restoration. I cant weld or do bodywork, so I have to pay the man when I do! Ill try to post a coulpe pics.

Remember, the claim is that this car needs nothin supposedly, Ive heard that before though. The only ting the owner did say it could use was the door covers on the inside as they were faded.

Things I dont like. its a 2bbl, no center console, and not sure if it has power disk brakes.

Nice pics but still hard to tell without being there. With a VIN you might be able to do a search and get vehicle history, would cost you but then you would know where it has been, i.e. New Jersey for first twenty years of life, or whatever....

The things you don't like should probably stay that way in spite of your dislike. A car that is collectable and original resells better if it stays that way. Not saying that car is original, don't know but......

As for disc brakes, it is very tough to tell, but it looks like a drum brake master cylinder after brightening up the under hood photo. Disc brakes were not very common on 68 A-body cars. Be aware that if it does have factory discs, 1968 was the last year they used 4-piston calipers. These are very prone to having leaking problems until they get re-sleeved.

Thanks guys, Its nice to get a second and third opinion. The guy claims Its never been touched. My only option is to get an independent inspectr for 350 dollars to look at it, but Ill probably discover its been patched along with other parts of the car that I cant get him to send pics of. At 15 grand plus shippping, its way to big a risk
