1994 W Body Cutlass convertible

I know! There is a w body forum, and can't seem to access it. Trying to find out if there is a specialty tool to replace the transverse spring on this car, and for that matter, is a replacement spring available? Have to Moog replacement "wedges" that go in the ends of the springs to get rid of that Gawdawful noise, guess the last ones installed fell out? Any hints appreciated.

Aron,

I've never done this, but there is a special Kent-Moore tool. They show up on ebay frequently. J 35778 is the Rear Leaf Spring Compressor and J 37956 is the Rear Auxiliary Spring Compressor. Not sure which one you need exactly. Both are currently on ebay. Just search for those J-numbers.

Can you rent the correct one from a local parts store?

I've changed those springs several times, and as Joe has said, the Kent-Moore tools are what you will need to make the job easier.... If you do any business with a local GM dealer, they may let you borrow/rent them.... that is what I have done in the past before buying a set of my own...

Where does one find the transverse composite spring,
Good question, as I just checked Rock Auto, GM Parts Direct and NAPA...no luck.

Do you happen to know the spring code?

The part numbers listed in my GM Parts System are 22188503 & 22188504.....

Part Number: 22188503 is listed to cover all of these spring codes... RDD, RDH, RDJ, & RDK.........

Part Number: 22188504 is listed for codes....RDN, RHH, RDM.......

Another Part Number listed in my Parts Catalog is 17988720 and is listed for years 88 to 92.... The Part Numbers above listed in my system are from 92 to 97.....

If you can still purchase the end pads, before changing the spring, I would try that approach again using a good epoxy......

Moog sells a "problem solver" kit that has end pads for these cars.

Thanks, good to know if I should need more pads.... I have at least one set of pads left which I purchased years ago, but I am sure I will need new epoxy, I don't think I would trust what is in the kit since they were purchased so long ago....

I presently have a 93 Cutlass on my lift which needs either the pads or a spring change..... Haven't decided which way I want to go as yet....
