Not being an A-hole here, but outside of the sentimental value, you may be better off finding one already fixed up.

 

As a curent owner of 4 G-Bodies, which includes a 1988 CSC, IMO...., as long as it is not a total rust bucket, I say go ahead and restore it..... After all it is the last rear wheel drive Cutlass and Parts are still available in many areas, but can't say that is true in your specific area of the country.... In my case, I have more then enough spare parts to maintain the four that I currently have which I acquired from various dealers and salvage yards.....

 

I have two restored 83 HO and an 86 442. Parts are still around and yours does not appear to require that much. If the body is solid then grab your wrenches and visit the bone yards. Transplant a pre 1976 350 Olds for good measure. Here in South Texas, which some might say is essentially Mexico (NINE NATIONS OF NORTH AMERICA, the G Body is highly sought after for transformation into a jumper or low rider. Oh well, to each his own. However, you do see original restorations sporting twenty inch wheels. The G Body has not waned in popularity.

 

after sitting for 12 yrs, I finally began to put my girl back on the road. it was my first car, so I never got rid of it. parts are available, but difficult at times to get. it is the greatest feeling and I still have a ways to go. but she is going on the road this month. good luck!

 

I would restore it as it is the final year of the rear wheel drive, V-8 cutlasses. My cutlasses are the same year...but V-6 Front wheel drive. It is rare for a manufacturer to make 2 differet models with the same name in the same year, hence the classic moniker on yours. Good luck with the resto, if you try it.

 

In Oldsmobile's case.... they have used the Cutlass name for two completely different models since 1982..... At which point they created the Cutlass Ciera (front wheel drive) which assumed the "A" Body classification and created the "G" Body platform for the existing rear wheel drive Cutlass (Supreme & Calais)..... In 1988, Oldsmobile actually produced the Cutlass Ciera (A-Body), Cutlass Calais (N-Body), Cutlass Supreme (W-Body), and the Cutlass Supreme Classic (G-Body........

 

I had a G body cutlass wagon, I wish I'd never sold it but that's by the way.
I did join the Gbody forum, plenty of guys there willing to help fellow enthusiasts and plenty of parts for sale to help restore a car like yours.
If you like the car or it holds a special sentimental value for you it shouldn't be too expensive to make it a nice car again.

Apart from the full size wagons, F bodies and Corvettes I think it was the last Body on Frame rwd car with a V8 option to come out of the GM stable.

Some people get all gassed up that every car has to be "restored". IMO we should say fix it up. Get the car in the state you want it to be in & enjoy it. Not every car needs to be a 1000 pt restoration.

ye thats true , i wouldn't say its 100% restored / fixed up . its around 70% fixed up .
will always have minor fixing required every now and then .
but defo runs well . and i used it daily sometimes every second day
