I've been curious about this for several years and I hope someone here can help me.

In 1980 my parents bought a new Olds Cutlass Supreme straight off of the showroom floor. While I am mostly into Pontiacs, I also have a love affair going with the Olds Cutlass and I have yet to have seen one like their car.

It was a silver two door Cutlass Supreme with a 350. The interior was black 'leather' with buckets and console. Now here is where it gets interesting. Instead of the half vinyl roof it came with a brushed stainless steel roof panel in it's place. The roof in front of this was black and made the car look like it had t-tops except it was a solid roof.

Any clue?

I do remember these new, seems they were a kind of blank slate that dealers could add regional promotion badging to.

 

Thanks for the info. It was for the most part what I was expecting with the special edition. A wild though did cross my mind about it possibly being a regional car but I dismissed that as too absurd

 

Mat is correct they had many, like GMO Galant Men of Olds etc.

Someone had a link to those regional packages. Hopefully some we chime in with that link to the list?

Also your power plant would have been a 231 V6, 260 V8 or 305V8. I believe that a 442 of that year had the 350.

I could have sworn it was a 350, but I was only 9 when they bought it so it's hard telling what it actually had.

 

The only one that got the 350 was the H/O. The largest gas engine you could get in a standard Cutlass was the Chevy 305, but most came with the 260 V8.
The one I had came with a 260, but that was out within 2 weeks for a 350. Then I proceeded to blow the rear end 3 times, then the 350 died. I then dropped in a 455 for a month till it spun a rod bearing and I finally sold it with a knocking 1970 350 in it.
I had a lot of fun in that car and I miss it.

 

For 1980 the only way to get a 350 in a Cutlass body would have been to order a 442. After 1979 Hurst was done with Olds until 1983. I'd bet the 5th digit in your VIN would be an H, I think that's the 305 chevy motor. A fifth digit being an R would be an Olds 350 but again for 1980 that would be in a 442 only. The paint schemes are the same as a 1979 Hurst Olds & the chief distinctions are the badging and 4 headlights rather than 2.
