1970 base 442

I am looking at a base 1970 442. It has drum brakes in the front and no p/b a open rear, bench seat auto on colum . Did 442 come that way in 1970.? Someone told me if it has drum brakes it was not a 442. Thanks for help

Do you have access to the VIN? That should be able to tell you.

Disc brakes were standard on the W30, optional on Cutlass and 442. Sounds like it was a base 442, built for speed. If you check trim tag and post picture the guys here can tell you more, good luck with car.

Something you must consider on a car like this is desirability. It is not going to be near as desirable as a 442 with more of the traditional options that people expect to see on a 442. With less desirability means less value.

Yes, all day long! Usually Costs a LOT more than 15K to do a nice resto and you still need to buy a car to do a resto on! Need pics ASAP!

The cowl tag shows bucket seat but this has a bench. Most take a bench out and install buckets because they are more popular and usually a little more valuable and easier to sell. If I bought it I would put buckets back and power disc brakes for better safer braking.

Would $15000 be a good price. He would put buckets and a 4 sp and console for $4000 giving me a total of 19000 or keep bench with 4sp for 2700 then total would be 17700. Then i still woulkd have the disc brakes and posi to do. Or just buy for 15000 and do it myself in the next couple of yrs . Either way it is a good deal? Im new at this . Thanks for help

It looks like a great deal to me! Also, If you really want a 4 speed and you can afford it, then the prices are not bad. By the time you got all the parts together for a 4 speed changeover and buckets and console you might have even more than that in it. You say you are new to this so I am guessing you do not have any of these parts yourself and have never done a changeover like this correct? If you want it and have the $$$$, I would say do it. The hassle of just trying to get everything together just would not be worth it. Also, if you decide to sell it, a 4 speed will sell quicker and for more, after all, 4 speed 4 barrel 2 exhaust!

I would be all over that for that price. If he could do the 4sp conversion even better. Good looking car.

Does it matter that the eng and trans came out of a delta 88. Or maybe just the eng if i do the switch over. I would have 19000 invested without posi and disc brakes if i do the switch over. Still worth it? Thanks for all the help

stop over thinking this....

Just go buy the car & enjoy it before someone slides in under you & buys the car. If you snooze you will lose.

Time out, if the engine and trans came out of a Delta, chances are that the crank is not setup for a 4spd. It is not an easy change if that's the case.

Peg-leg rear and gears hardly suggest "speed." Sounds more like a random individual buyer or something for dealer stock to me.

There's so many variables with value. A good baseline is Hagerty's numbers. Remember, even though she may of had a great restoration, it's not a number one car. Use the below estimator and you'll get an idea where you're at.

Does that mean because the eng came from a delta 88. Its not the same as a 455 from a 442?

One thought is when the column shifter is pulled, are you going to toss in a manual column? It's all about what you're doing with this toy. A driver could receive a billet go-fast column where a resto may call for a factory unit?

With this 4-speed talk, it would be an advantage to place the burden of the swap on the seller in case there are unforeseen issues such as the crank as mentioned. This becomes a condition of the sale not an afterthought misadventure.

Well did you buy it yet? The car is worth the $$ not counting if he is willing to do a correct 4spd swap for some extra.
