I'm confused as to whether or not there's a spring above the cancelling cam in the steering column of my 68 442. The assembly manual shows there is, using part number 5673012, which is replaced by 386789. The parts catalog, however, shows no spring listed for a Cutlass unless it's equipped with tilt & telescopic. There was no spring when I took it apart.

I'm guessing the parts catalog is wrong and the spring was missing, but would like to know from someone with first hand knowledge.
