astro van steering shaft to a-body?

Will the Astro van steering shaft swap into my 71 or does that only work on the g-body cars?

I don't know how much of an advantage it is but it replaces the knuckle and rag joint with u-joints. I guess they swap them in 3rd gen f-bodys also. Some use the XJ shaft instead of astro. Seem to be quite a few people do this, but I'm not a mechanic so...

I googled that shizzle and most folks were happy to get rid of the rag joint, the astro shaft has two u joints no rag joint. on my car the original rag was played enough that under hard direction changes the joint would flex enough to hit the pins (not sure on correct terminology) the replacement rag joint is much tighter.....other than that i didnt see any solid gains to be had with the astro shaft mod

This is what they say on other forums, it seems to be pretty popular.

"It eliminates the rag joint takes the slop and play out of the steering wheel. Very popular mod."

I installed a Jeep Grand Cherokee steering box on my car, along with a new rag joint, because it needed a new one to connect to the new box.

There is no perceptible play between my steering wheel and steering box.

I call BS.
