Ok I understand spring in MN is a bit late...but holy#$%. I have a foot of new snow and that is on 1 inch of ice. The word is the region will not see temps above 50 until May. I have already seen many car shows canx and I spoke to the local car supply store and he said sales are down 30% from last year.
This may be the year to move south!!!

 

You should move south to Oakdale MN. We only got 3 or 4 inches.

Funny thing, ask any person who believes in global warming and they'll have an explanation which sounds reasonable to them.

 

That sucks!! We have the rain and storms now in our area. We could have a rain/snow mix tomorrow, and temps are dropping again. It just doesn't want to let us go this year....

Global warming is the weather/climate phenomenon that can do no wrong. More storms/fewer storms, warmer weather/colder weather, late spring cold snaps/early spring thaws, more tornadoes/fewer tornadoes, more hurricanes/fewer hurricanes, thinner arctic ice/thicker arctic ice, ditto antarctic ice, you-name-it, it's all caused by that most magical of magical things: global warming. It's also been the cause of earthquakes and tsunamis and even weather changes on other planets!

There's no question that, averaged out, the temperature of the planet is getting very slightly higher.

Where I live, most people see that as a good thing.

The more important questions are,

Did we cause it (human beings, not Classic Olds )?
- Who knows. Maybe.

Can we change it?
- I doubt it, since we're not all going to start riding bicycles and moving goods with oxen.

Does it really matter?
- The earth's temperature has varied throughout known history. Yes, some bad things will happen, but none as bad as the Ice Age. Change has been a part of life since life began.

Climate varies FAR beyond the scope of what we can do to it.

 

I have lived in the same area for the past 45 years and it is getting warmer, we used to have a winter were you could skate on the ponds. Know we have snow for a max of 2 weeks and rain for 5 months straight with the odd sunny day. Its over cast 75% of the time.

 

I better not take a boat out too far, seeing the world is flat and all.

 

This is a Minnesota winter like I grew with....global warming????? For arguments sake- "they" say the temp has gone up, what, 2 -3 degrees on average. What I want to know is how can they justify saying that... simply from a thermometer accuracy standpoint or I should say in-accuracy standpoint- I can take 3 different thermometers and calibrate them using ice water, use it for a day and have it needing calibration one day later. I am a Chef and use thermometers often and they can vary 4,5,6 degrees....sorry , but you won't convince me that a thermometers accuracy from the early 1900's is going to be calibrated and accurate and on a even keel with what today's thermometers read. Global warming is for bored people with too much spare time and too much hand wringing while searching for another thing to "panic" about.....don't get me wrong, I am not advocating reckless environment stewardship but I don't buy most of the hype.

All I know is the area were I grew up and live today is warmer than it was 45 years ago. Is this a normal cycle? Have we made a weather changing impact? Air quality impact yes.

All I know is that last year here in the D.C. area, we had above average winter temperatures and it was all global warming all the time in the press (actually, it's not "global warming" anymore, it's "climate change".

This winter the temps have been BELOW average and the climate change mafia has been uncharacteristically silent. I guess that whole concept of year-to-year variability is lost on them.

Actually, I believe that the higher than average temps in D.C. during the winter of 2011-12 were due to the hot air generated from the presidential campaign. After the election, the hot air went away (well, diminished) for the 2012-13 winter.

 

Last year we had the mildest winter I can remember! We had temps in the 30's and 40's through January and February, by March we had flowers coming up that we don't usually see until June or later. We did have some snow and cold temps in there too the first part of the winter, but nothing like we usually have. It was great!

The weather people said it was because the jet stream took a different pattern and brought our weather in from the south and west. I don't know if it was global warming, climate change, el nino, el nina, or the jet stream, but I sure liked it!

There is no question that the climate is changing.

Back in the early '60s, you could ice skate for most of the winter (I am in Mass. near where Joe P. comes from).

My wife thought I was nuts, so I did some research.

Number of safe ice days in the 1960's - Approximately 50

Number of safe ice days in the 2000's - Approximately 25

The thunderstorms are also much more intense as well.

So, have I seen climate change in my life - YES

Interesting. I thought that, nowadays, EVERY weather event, from a warm day in February to a cold one in July, was due to global warming. Who'd a thought that it might just be due to what variations in the weather USED to be due to...the weather!

Back in the early 80's I went to a navy conference regarding " The cooling of our planet"' The Navy was concerned about fuel costs and how to deal with to it. I have a ships log from the 1780's in which the capt is concerned about the great iceberg just west of what is now southern CA.Bottom line is I am not going to believe anyone in the science community whose main income is from the US government or tree hugging organizations. Holy crap run our cars at full throttle and lets have some fun!!!

 

Your point is spot on. Back in the '70s there were a number of articles in newspapers and magazines, famously in Time magazine for one, talking about the coming ice age and how would we deal with it.

I hate this global warming!

 

You guys have no idea. We have 30" new snow since Saturday, it's blowing 30 mph now and more snow in the forecast. It's also 20 degrees above zero. At least it's above and not below like Sunday morning. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Driving that snowplow truck is about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on!

 

We have it the worst...we have snow AND we are live in Minnesota

 

Wow, sorry to hear you all are still buried. After we had 32" in one storm in February, I didn't think we would see the ground for two months. Hope it warms up there soon, it is supposed to be spring.

 

after 13.5 inches of snow on thursday ( I am about to snap) I moved the snow and said screw it...I AM STARTING IT. The 64 started after the second try!! A small fuel leak at the pump. I tightened the screws and she seems ok.
ONE ISSUE It is a new pump and I find having to tighten it every few months...any thoughts. Hope to drive it this coming weekend!! It may hit 50 deg!!!
